{"id":555,"date":"2023-09-21T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-20T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/65ddca122c74fa1e9dece591"},"modified":"2025-01-16T11:19:02","modified_gmt":"2025-01-16T10:19:02","slug":"ikigai-tellement-plus-quun-diagramme-de-venn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ateliertokimeki.com\/en\/ikigai-tellement-plus-quun-diagramme-de-venn\/non-classe\/","title":{"rendered":"Ikigai, so much more than a Venn diagram"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Have you ever heard of<em>ikigai<\/em>\u00a0(\u751f\u304d\u7532\u6590) ?<\/h2>\n<p>Most people outside of Japan know about the<em>ikigai<\/em>\u00a0in the form of a Venn diagram used to define one's purpose. The four overlapping circles represent what you love \/ what the world needs \/ what you are good at \/ what you can be paid for.<\/p>\n<p>But <strong>this is a misinterpretation of the concept as it is known in Japan<\/strong>. The word is composed of \u751f\u304d (iki) which means life and \u7532\u6590 (kai \/ gai) which denotes value. For those who love etymology, \u201ckai\u201d comes from the word \u8c9d (also pronounced \u201ckai\u201d) or shell, because shells had great value during the Heian period (794 to 1185).<\/p>\n<p><strong>The<\/strong><em><strong>ikigai<\/strong><\/em><strong>\u00a0is found in every aspect of life<\/strong>. It doesn\u2019t necessarily have the grandeur attributed to it in its Western version and is certainly not limited to the professional realm (\u201cwhat you are paid for\u201d). It\u2019s the small daily pleasures that are meaningful to us, that motivate us to get up every morning. Taking care of a pet, observing the changing seasons in one\u2019s garden, having tea with friends\u2026 Moreover, the Japanese do not seek their <em>ikigai<\/em>. It\u2019s more something that one discovers and appreciates, especially as one gets older.<\/p>\n<p>I was fortunate to find one of my <em>ikigai<\/em> \u2014 because you can have several \u2014 by chance. I read Marie Kondo\u2019s book to practice my Japanese. Inspired and motivated, I tidied up my apartment in the weeks that followed. But that wasn\u2019t enough for me. Even though I had a full-time job at an international organisation, I found myself only talking about tidying and encouraging everyone around me to try it. A few years later, I embraced this passion and started my career as a Japanese- tidying consultant!<\/p>\n<h2>Fill your daily life with passion<\/h2>\n<p>When sorting our belongings, we choose what to keep based on the famous \"spark joy\" criterion and declutter the rest, leading us towards <strong>a space and a daily life filled with joy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>To this, I would add that<strong>one should be passionate about everything they own<\/strong>. For example, I'm a huge fan of my backpack. Whenever someone comments on it, I turn into a brand ambassador (even though I don\u2019t receive any commission). The same goes for my water bottle; there was even a security agent at Geneva Airport who noted the brand to buy one for his daughter.<\/p>\n<p>Every object wants to serve its owner, hence the idea of treating them with gratitude. But <strong>even more powerful is to treat them with love<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Remember that everything we wear, use, and are surrounded by is chosen by us.
